In the brief, we were permitted to explore a group of users who demonstrated a requirement for learning. Objectively, we are searching to create a learning based activity and environment that engages a broad range of users through the use of sensory and real time interactions. The user doesn't necessarily need to be restricted to one demographic, which will be key to the ongoing social sustainability of the design. Through socially responsive design, we will endevor to create a space which everyday people can experience and learn about the place on which they stand. With views to perhaps one of the most recognisable structures in Australia, The Storey Bridge, the site is ideal for a learning experience which immerses the user in a moment through increased contextual awareness. For the purposes of specifics, the target users include children, students, and tourists. That is why we believe that more exposed and in depth thinking enabled by triggers
in the visual environment is critical to the way we learn. Furthermore, place is intended for management and ownership by the Brisbane City Council.
The View Across the Bridge from the Node Location
Site Plan with Predicted Views from the Node
The most important aspect considered in the positioning of the Node had to be the relative location to the bridge. We have chosen this position to best depict a projected timeline of the construction phases of the bridge. This position allows for a visual reading of the construction from left to right and views are able to be manipulated through revealing windows and restrictive geometry when implemented into a designed space. Further posts will explore ways of transposing contextual elements into a timeline like experience. It is predicted that we will explore the timeline of the far side of the bridge until the two ends met across the middle of the river, as shown in the previous post.
