DAB510 WEEK 1: Site Exploration - Techtonics

Even the Old Shelters have Lost their Battle with Time and Nature

I felt it was fundamental to document the transitional elements between nature and structure. The above image depicts how natural forces (corrosion) can diminish even the strongest structural elements. However nothing on site (including some newer elements such as pathways and signage) has stood the test of time like the monumental bridge structure. The techtonics are forceful, permanent, and uncompromised by their surroundings. The power this bridge exumes from every angle is nothing short of breathtaking.

Riviting is Repetitive and Overlays the Narrative to the Bridge's Construction Techniques

An Infinate Pathway With a View to the Future?

The techtonic nature of the bridge overwhelms the site and surrounds. It is the monument of our great city. Something which shouts out, "I am Brisbane". Perhaps the Node Design can celebrate the bridge's monument status. Design elements such as riviting and steel structure is something which can be translated into more contemporary design aesthetics. This bridge tells a story, not just by name. Let us hear this great story.
